It is no secret that the cost of living is increasing. The price of food, rent and other essentials keeps going up, leaving those on low incomes struggling to make ends meet. This in turn can have an impact on mental health.

The charity Mind has made it clear that money and mental health are “linked” and “that money problems can affect your mental health”.

London Hypnotherapist Steve Dell, has taken a stand to help those with no spare money to seek out services such as hypnotherapy which could help them address their mental wellbeing.

Steve, who was inspired by poverty activist Jack Monroe, has pledged to offer two free therapy sessions per week, either in person or online said “It is important that we recognise the impact of increasing costs on mental health and work to address it“.

This is an important issue and one which I am committed to raising awareness of. As a hypnotherapist, I see the impact that money problems can have on mental health on a daily basis. In fact, many people who come for help with their mental wellbeing are in difficult financial situations“.

Aspects such as anxiety, panic and lack of sleep amplify the problem, with many people choosing to avoid thinking about money completely, which in turn exacerbates the problems. Social life and relationships also struggle, as a result, leading to feelings of isolation.

Hypnosis, and specifically Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy as practiced by Steve Dell, is a type of ‘talking therapy’. It’s a modern psychotherapeutic approach that uses practical, structured, and well-researched strategies to help people make significant, positive changes. Therapists look at what the client wants to achieve (the outcome) rather than at whatever prompted them to seek help (the problem).

Steve Dell hopes that his approach will encourage other therapists to contribute a small portion of their time to helping others who don’t have the financial means to seek help.
