There are a number of different approaches to hypnotherapy and in London. I practice what’s known as Solutions Focused Hypnotherapy. It’s a modern form of talking therapy created by David Newton. He’s one of the most highly regarded hypnotherapists in the world. His approach came at a time where traditional therapy practices were under scrutiny. Due to the high volume of clients (40/50 hypnotherapy sessions per week!) he quickly realised that enjoyable therapeutic sessions have a higher likelihood of success. His research also confirmed that self discovery is more impactful than being told what to change.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) combines psychotherapy with hypnosis. It’s a talking therapy. We start by understand the goal (solution) as opposed to digging into the past. After talking things through the client is put into a very natural, relaxing state (trance) using guided relaxation. From here positive change can be comfortably launched and then reinforced.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) focuses on the present and the future, not the past. It’s about helping people move forward with their lives and not dwelling on the past. SFH follows a set structure and starts with asking the client to consider their preferred future. This gives the client a goal to focus on. The therapist also provides an explanation of how the brain works. This is followed by hypnosis.
